Pioneers Needed

This is a very ambitious project, starting from zero - so it needs pioneering spirits, people who want to co-create and are able to put up with some discomfort for the joy of making something new together.



Our primary priority is to find people suited for the options of autonomous employment that will help ensure a solid base of EcoEnterprises that will make our Eco Community viable.





Who are we looking for?


We are looking for people who realize that creating more EcoCommunities and other transition communities is an urgent & vital necessity now, who feel a genuine calling to apply their talents, knowledge, passion, creativity & all resources they can muster toward helping to create those andwho see this as a labor of love for future generations.

Please note that maybe in ten years or so we will be able to offer a much smoother transition, but right now, this is a project strictly for pioneering spirits.    

Pioneers are people who LOVE transforming places, they are those who enjoy making a place beautiful, & aren't so much interested in looking for beautiful places.

If you are a creative values-driven & innovative type of person (who does not put their own comfort high on their personal scale of importance) you will probably have a great time here, as there is so much to do.   

What's this about not putting my own comfort high on the scale? It's because there will be some discomfort in this creative birthing process.  Creating community, designing the statutes and the master design for the EcoVillage, designing and implementing the electric and water systems, basically - being pioneers!

We have the advantage of counting on Villa Astoria Guest House as our home base while we create the right conditions for a shared life experience on the Finca, so as a pioneer member you won't be missing many 'creature comforts' unless you want to go live on the Finca in a tent (which we'll all be doing as we get more deeply into the master design).

Many of the toxic systems that need dismantling in society are quite accurately reflected within ourselves, so a sincere commitment to personal transformation has to accompany a group & societal transformation. Integral Permaculture studies how these are completely interrelated, and as Eco Community Members we get to explore in detail the mechanics of these interconnections.   

To explore this within ourselves & with each other requires much courage & dedication, as we need to accept that we can be changed to the core in this process.  If you are not truly prepared to be challenged, please look elsewhere! We don't want to spend our time on people who avoid discomfort at all costs & seek to adjust the environment to their fears, instead of challenging themselves to overcome them.

We look forward to finding enormous joy & excitement in growing through the cutting edges of human evolution with people who choose to commit to the adventure of using transformational models & tools in our everyday lives.


This is an Action-Research Project

In order to also help set up many more EcoVillages elsewhere, we plan to work as a live action-learning study & to document each phase of the creation of the EcoVillage, testing the theory* against practice, sharing our findings in order to add to the wealth of action-learning knowledge in how to create communities & sustainability-enhancing projects.

The Integral Permaculture curriculum aims to cover all the basics anyone needs to design a sustainable culture.  You can see the e-Book (the Integral Permaculture Manual, under construction) here:  PermaCultureScience.org 

> this project essentially PUTS INTO PRACTICE & EXPERIMENTS with the models, tools, guidelines & methods in there, step by step.

So we are looking for people who are very excited at the thought of doing all this, which is painstaking work, requiring us to always keep the big picture in mind, while working on many little details - like the path in the picture to the right (which is not taken on site - we wish!).  We include the path as a metaphor of this process we describe, of crafting the path as we walk it, with much loving detail, for others to later walk home more easily. And we have the advantage of working with the 8thLife La Palma project which has quite a few years' experience living, learning and walking this path.

This is ideally for people who are already thinking in the "we paradigm" (instead of still too stuck in the old "me, me, me" paradigm we're all too well trained in), and are up for a very big adventure.    


Emotional Maturity

A high level of emotional maturity (or flexibility & high determination to grow some quick, as we also offer training)
  • to work hard physically 
  • as well as emotionally 
  • plus a real willingness to be very honest 
  • and to welcome change. 
These are all basic requirements, at least for the foreseeable future*, whilst we are uniting the core group (8-10 people). 

Our friends in La Palma spotted a pattern which clearly distinguishes the kinds of 'mature' people who do well in this adventure.  

They are those who don't tend to passively blame others or outside circumstances for their difficulties & discomforts, but rather look to what they can change, and do so, creatively & pro-actively, openly & with intelligence, instead of creating drama & gossip.   

Pro-active & Cooperative people (the two permaculture directives) think of how to benefit the whole group, not just themselves, & propose original re-designs + ask others honestly & clearly to change anything they think isn't working well + are willing to dialogue to find the best solutions within the integral permaculture framework.

Integral Permaculture is about radically changing a brutally unjust society, not about hoping to reform some bits of it by changing our lifestyle choices in the west, and it's certainly not about saving our over-privileged asses by taking refuge somewhere that hasn't gotten spoiled yet.

* We look forward to being able to, eventually, be able to provide a more inclusive & healing place for more people, at whatever stage they are, once we have the basic resources to do so: a core group of stable mature & knowledgeable people who can hold a healthy & stable base for the powerful inner transformations that often spontaneously start to happen for people when they move into a very different, more hopeful & rational way of living.

As you can see, we're looking for people with certain qualities, and for the success of our project we have to be very selective about who we welcome. That's why right now at this early pioneer stage the application procedure is quite long, so please do start once you're sure you're seriously interested in joining us.

Note that it's the People-Care aspect of this project which is unique & we are interested in hearing from people who excited about this and not just the tropical location and warm climate, as their main motivation for joining us. That's why it's a requirement that prospective members have taken at least this first module of the Integral Permaculture course.





Growing Up

We live in an adolescent society, Neverland, where never growing up seems more the norm than the exception. 
Little boys wearing expensive suits and adult bodies should not be allowed to run big corporations. 

They shouldn’t be allowed to run governments, armies, religions, small businesses and charities either and just quietly, they make pretty shabby husbands and fathers too. 

Mankind has become Pankind and whilst “lost boys” abound, there is also an alarming increase in the number of “lost girls.”
